WHAT IS A SANCTUARY

Tabernacle or Tent of Meetings - I go back to Abraham: In Gen 13:18 - Mamre, in the site where Abraham came to set up his tents to camp, built an altar, and was brought divine tidings, in the guise of three angels.

In 18: 1 – And the Lord and two angels appeared unto Abraham in the ‘plains of Mamre” and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

#168 - Tent means (O’hel) in Hebrew. Meeting place, sanctuary and holy. These were all the ingredients that went into the Tabernacle.

#4908 - Tabernacle (Mishkan) in Hebrew. Residence or dwelling place. The tabernacle was a moveable tent.

Purposes of the Tabernacle:

Exodus 20:19 – And the children of Israel said unto Moses Speak thou with us and we will hear, but let not God speak with us lest we die…… Commentary says the people understood that Moses was Gods mediator and that due to the greatness of God they would not speak with God directly. But I believe God heard the need of their hearts to have direct relationship and communication with him and the Tabernacle was the place for all to be in his presence, according to his rules for service.

Exodus 25:8 - God said And let them make me a sanctuary #4720 (miqdash) consecrated, hallowed part, holy place and #6944 (qodesh) sacred place, holy thing, set aside for sacred use. - that I may dwell among them.

Exodus 25:22 – And there I will meet with thee and I will commune #1696 – (dabar) means to answer, speak, pronounce, say talk, teach, utter - with thee from above the mercy seat #3727 (kapporeth) a lid that covered the Ark of the Testimony, made of gold and decorated with two cherubim. Only at specific times could the high priest come before the mercy seat. This room where the Ark of the Covenant was placed was separated by a vail. The Holy of Holies area, which was to separate all men, even the priests, from the presence of God.

a. Once a year - On the Day of Atonement – made atonement for himself, the tabernacle and the people y a sin offering, which included sprinkling of blood on this lid….

b. The meaning was clear: man was separated from God by reason of sin and could not approach him, only through blood which was presented by a priest.

c. When Jesus died on the cross, the vail hanging in the temple was torn in two (Matt 27:51). Jesus went beyond the vail (Heb 9:11; 7:23-28) taking His own blood (Heb 9:12) and making full atonement (Heb 10:10, 12).

It was to be a home to hold and protect the Ark of the Covenant or Ark of the Testimony #5715 – God’s Testimony - warning signs, the laws or precepts that God delivered to all humanity.

a. Inside the Ark were - Tables of Stone that the 10 commandments were inscribed. It was also said to include.

b. Aaron’s rod. (Heb 9:4)

c. A jar of manna – Edible substance that God provided to the people of Israel during their travel in the dessert.

4. Ex 40:36-38 - The Lord will meet his people there and it will be filled with the Glory of God and His presence.

5. Levites (Priest) were responsible for the Tabernacle (Num 18: 1-8)

And the LORD said unto Aaron, Thou and thy sons and thy father's house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary: and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood. 2And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be joined unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall minister before the tabernacle of witness. 3And they shall keep thy charge, and the charge of all the tabernacle: only they shall not come nigh the vessels of the sanctuary and the altar, that neither they, nor ye also, die. 4And they shall be joined unto thee, and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, for all the service of the tabernacle: and a stranger shall not come nigh unto you. 5And ye shall keep the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the altar: that there be no wrath any more upon the children of Israel. 6And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. 7Therefore thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priest's office for every thing of the altar, and within the vail; and ye shall serve: I have given your priest's office unto you as a service of gift: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death. 8And the LORD spake unto Aaron, Behold, I also have given thee the charge of mine heave offerings of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel; unto thee have I given them by reason of the anointing, and to thy sons, by an ordinance for ever.

a. minister #8334 - (sharath) to serve, servant, contribute – host for God, service

b. priest office #3550 – (khunnah) priesthood – makes sacrifices – mediate in religious services, to officiate.

6. Ex 25-40 – God instructs how the Tabernacle, Arks of the Covenant is to be built and the responsibility of the Priest #3548 (kohen) to officiate, chief rule, priest, prince – functioning as mediators between God and His people. Congregation #5712 (edah) family or crowd – assembly company multitude, people, swarm and #4150 (mowed) an appointment, fixed time or season, a festival, conventionally a year, the place of meeting, appointed, sign or time.

I went through the first 7 verses in Genesis Chapter 21 regarding the Birth of Isaac and researched what God was trying to tell us not about Abraham and Sarah, but what God was trying to tell us about Himself “God”.

Genesis 21 - King James Version (KJV)

¹And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

Visited (paqad) in Hebrew – means to search out, commit to and care for. And this word can be used for either good or for punishment.

Has spoken (dabar) in Hebrew – means to arrange or promised.

But when you look at this first verse it says visited now if this were today for instance and someone was telling this story you would want to know more details. That’s why we need to use these various different resources or tools to help us understand the cultural context, geography, holidays or celebrations and the economic and political environment.

Who visited Abraham: 18:2 - 3 men (2 angels and God).

Where was Abraham when he was visited his immediate location was in the door way of the tent and Sarah was inside the tent. Tent means (O’hel) in Hebrew. Yes it is a covering and dwelling place but the root word represents tabernacle, holy place or sanctuary. Just like today we say My home is my sanctuary or suppose to be my sanctuary - that all comes from the Hebrew understanding of Tent. This was a sacred place/holy ground.

Geographical Location: 18:1 – Plains of Mamre – Isaac was born in the plain of Mamre. (Gen 13:18). Mamre, lies approximately half way between Halhul and Hebron. Mamre being the name of one of the three Amorite chiefs who joined forces with those of Abraham in pursuit to save Lot. (Gen. 14:13, 24). The Oak of Mamre, also called The Oak of Abraham, is an ancient tree which, in tradition, is said to mark the place where Abraham entertained the three angels or where Abraham pitched his tent. It is estimated that this oak is approximately 5,000 years old.

²For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

God is in control – He said at the appointed time. (Gen 18:14) Set Time means place of meeting. Old age is this case actually means old age or the number you would look at to represent old age.

Not at our time but in God’s time.

³And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.

His name was specified before he was born “And thou shalt call his name Isaac (Gen 17:19) What’s interesting is that Sarah is not recorded as laughing until (Gen 18:12). God’s knows what we are going to do before we do it.

⁴And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.

Abraham is obedient, because he follows God’s commands and honors the covenant for the circumcision of all the males in his household including Isaac. God and Abraham Covenant and promise (Gen 17:10-14). The action of the circumcision took place (Gen 17: 23-17).

⁵And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.

God can bring dead things to life. God performs miracles. God lets us know that nothing is too hard for God. He can do all things. Omnipotent!

⁶And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

Isaac’s name means laughter. God understands that this miracle would be difficult for any human to truly understand and I believe that God didn’t take Abraham and Sarah’s laughter personal. Abraham’s laughter was in amazement and Sarah was in disbelief….. but God counted it as a time of joy and celebration.

⁷And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.

God performs a miracle - that a child was born to them in their old age and furthermore Sarah is able to breast feed.

Key Points:

Several Lessons are learned in the promises of God through the Birth of Isaac:

·         God is faithful to His promises and his word.

·         God is in control (At the appointed time) Gen 18: 14

·         That making our own plans will not supersede God’s plans.

·         God is in no hurry to the working out of His plans. We must learn patience.

·         Nothing can hinder or thwart the outworking of God’s purpose.

·         Our faithfulness is tried and tested, in order to display its genuineness and love.

God reveals to us through the Birth of Isaac:

·         He performs miracles in the supernatural

·         God is the source of bringing dead things to life.
·         We can only be reborn through God in the spirit. Our natural flesh cannot bring about new life.

·         God is Omnipotent – He harnesses all the power and control.

·         He keeps His word and promises, He is the first example of faithfulness and all that He requires. He makes Himself the example first – then continually places human subjects in the earth for us to follow.

·         His ways and understanding are superior to our human understanding
·         That the carnal ways and understanding are that of the flesh

·         That the supernatural ways and understanding are that of the spirit

·         God prepares us for what’s coming by giving us a living example and blueprint, so we can grasp the greater future gifts with some familiarity, through comparisons and prior connections.

The coming of the Messiah Jesus Christ was foreshadowed in the Birth of Isaac:
·         First, Isaac was the promised seed and son (Gen. 17:16)

·         Second, a lengthy interval occurred between God's first promise to Abraham and its realization.

·         Third, when Isaac's birth was announced, his mother asked, "Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?" (Gen. 18:13), to which the answer was returned, "Is anything too hard for the Lord?"
·         Fourth, Isaac's name was specified before he was born- "And thou shalt call his name Isaac" (Gen. 17:19).

·         Fifth, Isaac's birth occurred at God's appointed time (Gen. 21:2) "at the set time"; so also in connection with the Lord Jesus we read "But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman" (Gal. 4:4).

·         Sixth, as we have seen above, Isaac's birth required a miracle to bring it about; so also was it with the incarnation of Immanuel.

·         Seventh, the name Isaac (given unto him by Abraham and not Sarah, Genesis 21:3), which means laughter, declared him to be his father's delight; so also was the one born at Bethlehem.

What is Worship? Jesus said .... 'But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.' (John 4:23-24) .....

Worshiping God in spirit means we worship Him from the heart. God is the Truth and His word is alive.

• proskuneo "to make obeisance, do reverence to", "to worship, homage or reverence.
• sebomai "to revere," stressing the feeling of awe or devotion, is used of "worship"
• sebazomai akin to sebomai, "to honor religiously
• latreuo "to serve, to render religious service or homage.
• eusebeo "to act piously towards," is translated "ye worship".
• sebasma denotes "an object of worship".
• ethelothreskeia[-ia] "will-worship" voluntarily adopted "worship," not that which is imposed by others.

What is Praise? Praise - To express approval and commendation of; applaud, eulogize. To express adoration of; glorify (and God). Commendation expressed, as of a person for his virtues, or concerning meritorious actions; utterance of approval; honor given; also, applause. Thanksgiving for blessings conferred; laudation to God; worship expressed in song. The object, ground, reason, or subject of praise.

• Hala/Tehillah (1984) - the root meaning is connected to making a noise. Singing hymns.
• Yada – bodily gestures.
• Zamar (2167) – playing or singing music.
• Yadah (3034) – righteousness – lifting of hands – throw hands up
• Towdah – extend hands in admoration
• Shabach – to shout in a loud voice
• Barak – means to kneel down
In summary, worship and praise are intertwined. Praise is a form of worship. Worship involves the whole aspect of our awe, reverence, love, and respect for Almighty God.

Black Worship - During slavery, many slaves were stripped of their African belief systems and typically denied free religious practice, forced to become Christian. Slaves managed, however, to hang on to some practices by integrating them into Christian worship in secret meetings. These practices, including dance, shouts, African rhythms, and enthusiastic singing, remain a large part of worship in the African American church today.

The Black experience is a full engagement of various worship, intimate prayer, cathartic shouting, triumphant singing, politically relevant religious education, and prophetic preaching.

Prayer: Public and Private – Going before the Lord and petitioning for Him to move on our behalf, on the behalf of others, situations and circumstances in the earth and corporate prayer in public where we pray as a kingdom body.

Dancing: In to His joy – dancing with small movements of happiness, thanks, worship and praise and then. Getting what we call the Holy Ghost when we feel like we’re on fire and we have to moving in a fast pace rhythmic motion in one place or running in a specific area or circle.

Triumphant Singing: In the spirit – singing with joy and understanding and then elevating our singing to a level of personal reflection, when the words and the scriptures touch our lives and situation and we recall what He has done for us and the music becomes a tribute more then just a song. A communication of thanks as we raise and lower our voices in song.

Cathartic Shouting: Gestures of Praise - When the fire comes inside your belly and you can’t help but let it out in shouting motions, some speak in tongues and others blurt out without concern on how they look or are represented in God. Usually the words are repetitive and continue in a rhythmic motion. “Thank you Jesus” “Thank you Lord” “My God” “Yes Yes”

Bodily Gestures: Throwing up hands, clapping, kneeling, lifting hands and laying prostrate. When the fire and reverence is too strong to just remain physically calm. It’s as if the body has been energized and needs to make movements that increase your pulse rate and cause you to feel the need to give praise in a physical manner, where your body parts are communicating with a power outside of itsself.

The Book and Life of Job
Scripture this morning will come from: Job 28:12-13

And the KJV Reads:

But where shall wisdom be found and where is the place of understanding. Man knoweth not the price, thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.

Let there be a blessing to the reading of His Holy Word.

Coming up on the Rough Side: Now that could refer to several elements of living.

Could be the part of town you grew up on
Certain Country you came from (or)
A Certain situation or circumstance.

When I think about Coming up on the Rough Side:

It makes me think about the Servant Job.
Most of us know the story of Job

But let’s just revisit a few facts

Jobs name alone means hated or persecuted one – so we know he already has something in common with the Messiah.
The book from the Old Testament is considered one of the poetic books along with Psalms and Proverbs.
Job’s great Uncle was Abraham – The Patriarchal Father of many Nations.

So what’s so poetic about the book of Job:

First of all ancient Hebrew poetry contains almost no rhyming as we see and understand poetry today.
But the Story is considered majestic because of the content and sound matching schemes of parrellism through thoughts and ideas.

Job was a very religious and pious man. Very prosperous and very wealthy.

He had 1 wife
7 sons and 3 daughters
He was considered the greatest of all men in the East
7000 Sheep
3000 Camels
5000 Ox and Donkeys

The Adversary “Satan” – says to God. The only reason Job is faithful is because you show him favor. He’s a favorite servant. If the favor were removed He would “surely” curse you – to you face.

That sounds very familiar to the walk and journey of many of us. We praise Him when everything is going our way, but as soon as we encounter “The Rough Side” We loose our faith and curse the light that took us out of darkness.

Just like when God freed the children of Israel from Egyptian bondage and slavery.

As soon as they encountered a little hardship in the wilderness. They grumbled and complained and started to bite the very hand that feed them.

It was their choice to become better in the struggle – but instead they chose to become bitter.

God gives Satan permission to test Job’s righteousness and the story comes across the 6’Oclock news:

“Why do the Righteous Suffer”
“Why are the innocent and blameless stricken with pain”
“Why are good folks done wrong”

But Jesus said – in this world you will have trouble, but take heart. I have overcome the world and in me you shall have peace.

This takes place in the land called Uz – Sitting between Damascus and The Euphrates River. One of the 4 river heads flowing out of the Garden of Eden.

Today that most likely would be between Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Jesus said Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nest, but the son of man has no where to lay his head. Jesus is explaining I am your only true refuge. In times of joy and in times of pain. When you pick up your cross and follow me. My cause becomes your cause and my fight becomes your fight.

I know the plans I have for you says the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you – to give you hope and a future.

But at the first sign of trouble we give up the Ghost – dissolve the partnership and join hands with the darkness.

Jesus said to the disciples in Gethsemane – Could you not stay awake and pray for me -just for 1 hour.

He’s saying to us Today

Can you not run away from my side at the first sign of trouble.

Don’t be so easily redirected and uprooted.

Have a little confidence that you represent the winning team.

My Word is not here to scare you.

It’s here to inform and guide you through this journey of the living.

Don’t get angry and pull away from the word.

Get determined and draw it closer and nearer.

God told Joshua – on the Mountain Top. Don not let my word depart from your lips, your heart or your mind.

But let it be a tool
A Resource – an ever present help in the time of trouble.

The How to and what should you do – guide of all guides.

God Said you can take all his possessions – but you can not take his life.

What is God trying to say about God?

We sometimes miss this point because we are so caught up in the participants in the story that we miss what the author is revealing about the author.

God is the Creator
The Beginning and the End

He knows that - Satan knows that….. But do you and I know that?

Life can change in an instant.

The Only thing that’s forever is God.
All other things will parish and pass away.

God Makes 3 major points in His teachings through the life of His servant Job – That tells us about God.

First Point - God’s wisdom, providence and benevolence.

In his wisdom

i. There is not test that God can fail.

ii. Whatever man meant for evil – God will turn it around for good.

In His providence

i. God is the one who gives us life and wealth and meets our every need. Jehovah-Jireh – mine and your provider.

We need to understand the meaning of the words we utter. Life and death is in the power of the tongue.

Ignorance is no excuse. He said study to shew thyself approved unto me. Not man but unto God. So hold onto that thought.

Because after the study a test must come.

In His benevolence

i. He is our beneficiary – the one who provides life for us even after our earthly death.

ii. Like a benevolence fund or insurance policy. That pays to a group or organization for a period of years after your death, based on the amount you selected while you were living. A continual voice coming forth from the grave in monthly increments.

1. Saying even though you don’t see me anymore.

2. Doesn’t mean you won’t feel me anymore.

The Second Point - Why God Allows Righteous people to suffer?

God said nobody is exempt from the test not even me.
He said I believed in Job just enough that I put the faith that I said I had in him on the line.
That my love would not return to me void.

i. God said man looks at the outside – but I look at the heart.

ii. I judge the motives of man not the consequences of the result.

Even God has His love and faithfulness tested.

If you say “I Love You” to your spouse or significant other.

To your children or other family and friends.

It must be tested for truth. - True Love is the Truth.

Faith is the foundation for which Love exist.

If you can’t stand by me – then the truth is you don’t love me.
Whether it hurts or not the truth will set you free. The truth is the truth.

Words without a test - are nothing more than a loud symbol - making noise.

I know you thought you meant what you said. But real truth is how you stand in the fire.

Still hold on to His unchanging hands.

Because if you can hold on to His hands - for just a little while - in the middle of a storm – then I know when I reach my hand out for you. Then I know - I’ve got a Real Friend.

The Third Point

God wants us to know who’s really in control.
Who’s really the Head NIC.

i. Satan only has the power you and I give him.

ii. He works through our hurts and pains – desires and wants of this world.

iii. He tries to fill us with despair and distrust (distractions and chaos)

His Favorite tune is “Surely” when you hear this deceptive sweet melody – you know the serpent has just entered the room.

He tires to kill the very essence that keeps you connected and faithful “your love”.

He is the Tornado of relationships and family.

His goal is to conquer, kill and destroy.

Jesus said How can you know I’ve got your back.

If you don’t really know who I am.

How can you know the qualifications of Real Love – if you’ve never had it tested in the middle of a storm.

Before a new automobile can be released on the Road – it goes though a series of crash test.
Before a concrete center block can be used to support a new home foundation – it must go through a mortar stress test for durability and longevity.
When you stand up and call yourself a man or woman of God. That you Love the Lord, say hallelujah and praise His holy name. You’re gonna go through a Faith Test.

When God was satisfied with the faithfulness and right standing of His servant Job.

He restored it all – plus
Love brought it all back

Wife, children, property, respect, status and health

Yes – Job experienced some weariness and confusion
He experienced some anxiety and nervousness
He was hurt and full of sorrow and grief
And his physical body was diseased with elephantiasis

But its not the trail and tribulations (alone) that make us strong.

But it’s the purification of the faith that confirms Real Love.

That keeps us fighting while where in the middle of the storm.

And that’s “Job” - No matter how bad it was. He still remained unified with the Kingdom and held on to God’s unchanging hands.

So We understand the faithful servant Job and his journey.

That all God’s servants will be tested and this test is referred to as trouble, hardtimes, valley experiences and storms.

We looked at the three major points of what God was saying about God, through the life of Job.

Now what are we expected to do with this information.

Coming up on the Rough Side…. – Means I’m climbing and whether it is a rough piece of terrain or a scattered and chiseled piece of rock – I need to be prepared to reach the top!

It doesn’t matter how hard I study if I show up at the exam center with out my identification, a notebook and a pen. “I will fail the test” – not because I didn’t know the material, but because I wasn’t prepared.

When it’s time to climb the mountain its too late, to think about all the tools I should have had…

But God being such a gracious, merciful and loving God. Says I know you weren’t prepared the first, second or third time, but I’m gonna make an exception in your case. I’ll let you take a make up exam.

So you start to gather al the tools necessary to succeed.

Some hiking boots
Maybe a backpack and blanket
Canteen, rope and a knife
Some protective clothing and head gear
A flashlight with batteries
And Some food and water

To name Just to name a few

This brings me to think about the Movie Rocky…. I think there were 5 or 6 episodes

Beginning in 1976 and the final episode was in 2006.

But one in particular really caught my attention….

In case I didn’t tell you – I’m one of those people - who see - the revealing of God in everything…. I’m searching for it – just to hear him speak…

So as I started to prepare myself for gathering the items necessary for my spiritual tool belt.

I saw 7 compartments that needed to be filed and God said I’m going to show you what you need in each one of them. So Your always Prepared!

Compartment - My Word – your how to guide – when your coming up on the rough side.

Compartment - A few God Fearing - good friends to climb with you. So you know you are not alone . In their names it will tell you the comfort that I offer, just like I did with my favorite servant Job.

Rocky laid out on the canvas in a puddle of blood and all I could see was the blood of the Jesus. The power that gives us strength day by day. Yes Compartment #3 is The savior, the messiah, the King of all Kings. That’s when Rocky lifted his head and saw his wife Adrian – but I saw Jesus and we both got up to fight and to win.

vs. 13 says: man knoweth not the price…..neither is found in the land of the living.

Compartment - Wisdom – vs 12 tells us: But Where shall wisdom be found and where is the place of understanding? – This comes from the Holy Spirit who allows knowledge and experience to be that 6^th sense – some call it discernment or intuition or I just felt that some thing - telling me to be still…. that something was the HS our spiritual guide.

Compartment - Courage – you Can’t be a Coward – You’ve got to be willing and ready to fight. You’ve got to plant your feet on solid ground and say BRING IT… you might as well fight the good fight of faith – because its not gonna go away! The adversary will show up again tomorrow…..

Compartment - You Need Song like the one by Marvin Sapp “He Saw the Best in Me”

Something to snap you back – replenish your energy source.
A spirit of praise and worship - motivation and inspiration
When you’re just about – ready to give up and throw in the towel – the music of a champion comes on “Eye of a Tiger” you’re the cream of the fight…. Rising up to challenges of our Rivals…
And at that very moment you feel your help coming on….. and you know your headed for a come back……

Final Compartment - The Lord – God Says Make sure I’m in the front right hand pocket. By your side every step of the way. I will not leave you nor forsake you. I’m calling for the front seat…. I’m riding Shot Gun today.

So you need to

Know the Story
What the Author is also trying to say
And How to be prepared for the battle
So you can live to fight - another battle - another day!

Coming up on the rough side

Trying to Make it to the top - and always ready to fight – because you’re always trying to win!

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

1 Timothy Chapter 4: 6-16 Apostle Paul is addressing and guarding the truth in the church, in the face of Apostasy and Timothy’s Personal Responsibilities. Apostasy: means abandonment or renunciation.

A Good Minister Scripture: Vs. 6 - If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. Introduction: What is a good Minister: 1. beautiful, valuable, honest, worthy and honorable. 2. Attendant, teacher, servant, and someone who works for God. Background: Titus who had love for the church for the Corinth brethren has volunteered readily for the task of leadership. He was the stronger and more mature of the two, but Titus was not Apostle Paul’s choice. Main Body: Apostle Paul is encouraging Timothy to continue on and not allow men to undermine his abilities in leadership. Point 1: Focus on the brethren – not on the distractions from the devil. He only seeks to divide. Point 2: Be honest and your brethren will see your value and know you are a worthy and honorable servant. Point 3: Remember what you and your brethren have in common (faith & truth). Conclusion: That being honorable is beautiful and that if you’ve been chosen by God for a task, it doesn’t matter to compare the qualifications of self or others. A pure heart for the love of your brethren, the fullness of the word and believing that you share faith and truth is what encourages another to follow.

A Good Doctrine Scripture: Vs. 6 - If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. Introduction: What is good doctrine: 1. beautiful, valuable, honest, worthy and honorable. 2. good for instructions, teaching, training, precept, delivering and divine ordinances. Background: Reminder: from the title: A Good Minister: We are dealing with Titus who had love for the church for the Corinth brethren has volunteered readily for the task of leadership. He was the stronger and more mature of the two, but Titus was not Apostle Paul’s choice. Main Body: Timothy shared in Paul’s spirit and example and therefore Apostle Paul felt that Timothy could teach effectively what was taught to him. Point 1: Your character should always remain honorable Point 2: God’s instructions are divine and require teaching Point 3: Teaching: a. Word of God b. Educate by training others to become disciples Conclusion: That a good doctrine is first delivered by an honorable person so that the recipients will find the teacher worthy to be heard. Then the instructions are to be divine and you must educate and duplicate by creating disciples to continue the teachings.

Who Do You Trust Scripture: Vs. 10 - For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specfically of those that believe. Introduction: 1. Who – The Living God 2. Why – Because He is the savior of all men and as the children of God we believe Background: Apostle Paul is talking about himself and Timothy when he says “we both”. The work of the kingdom will require a steadfast heart and trust in the one who sent you…. Until the day you will meet face to face and rejoice in heaven. Main Body: Part of your trust is who you believe in. Then you will believe in what they also stand for. That’s why a relationship with Christ is necessary to deepen the relationship and create a bond that you trust. It’s much easier to belief if you have a relationship and it’s built on solid ground. Point 1: You’ve got to believe or there is no trust. Point 2: This belief comes with two points. 1. Labor – work - 2. Suffering - pain Point 3: Jesus Christ is our savior that we will trust, believe and be should be willing to put in work and endure pain along the journey. For we know there is a greater reward in heaven. Conclusion: The price of our salvation is that we duplicate the journey and work of our savior…. And believe in the one that came in the flesh and died for us that we might have a right to the tree of life.

The Gift and the Gift Giver Scripture: Vs. 14 - Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Introduction: 1. What is your gift? 2. Who gave it to you 3. For what purpose? Background: Apostle Paul is speaking to Timothy about the spiritual gift to be a minister and teacher and how this was sanctioned and confirmed, by God. Main Body: This type of gift that Apostle Paul is speaking to Timothy about is not the gift to sing or dance. This is a gift of favor of charisma and Christian knowledge, a free gift, undeserved, but none the less given to Timothy. Do not neglect this gift or disregard its power. Use this gift as it has been specifically set aside for you. Point 1: This is a gift for the office and qualifications. Point 2: Endowment/Prophecy which means prediction or foretelling. Point 3: Presbytery – to sanction. The Estate of Elders or Council of Elders. The governing ecclesiastical body that manages the public affairs of the church. The laying of hands by the Elders was the reminder to Timothy to recall, his work is not that of mortal man, but one that comes with authority and approval from God c/o the Holy Ghost. Conclusion: By the means by which Timothy was ordained into the ministry. This gift was to be regarded as special and the power cultivated to perform the works was faithfully the duties of that office that Timothy received favor from on high. Do not forget to use all of your resources in your work for the kingdom. The gift is special because it comes from the Father and it has energy to accomplish what it was sent out for.

What Type of Example Are You? Scripture: Vs. 12 - Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Introduction: Don’t let anyone look down on you because you’re young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. Background: There is an overall concern about Timothy’s experience, age and ability to handle such a task of leadership. Paul is explaining that others may see you lack because of worldly qualifications. But when you have God on your side you are fully qualified in every task. Apostle Paul motivates, teaches and reminds Timothy to stay focused and allow God’s work in him to speak louder than any other worldly element of confirmation, and men will follow. Main Body: The church could be regarded with contempt and the ministry could be blamed and not honored for the lack of experience due to Timothy’s youthful age. So Apostle Paul tells Timothy that his example will speak for the lack of age that he offers as confirmation that he is qualified for this position. Point 1: Lead by example – your behavior and conduct should be blameless. With integrity, honesty and purity. Point 2: In spirit, in faith and in purity uplifting always. Point 3: Teaching nothing but the truth of God, because nothing but that will save souls. Conclusion: Be an example of the believers. A Minister of the Gospel. Live so that your people should closely follow your rendering and their salvation will be secure.

Apostle John - Who's Influencing Who?

Who is John – The Apostle John is the same person, the brother of James and the cousin of Jesus. Was written around 90 AD to the believers who where members of the church of Asia Minor; regarding the direction for those Christians who faced new challenges to their faith and the heresies filtrated by gentile influences, not Jewish opposition. Apostle John never used his authority as an apostle in his greetings of his messages. He spoke in the beginning from what was seen (with our own eyes), heard (declared) and the word revealed (touched by hands that handled the word of life). 1 John Greetings: From the Beginning Walk in Light: Walk in the light and we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Christ cleanseth us from all sin. If any man sin we have an advocate with the Father Jesus Christ the righteousness. Propitiation: #2434 hilasmos - (an expiator, bringing reconciliation) The Believer’s Assurance: He that say I know Him, but does not keep his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him. Exhortations to Brotherly Love: If you say you are light and hate your brother, is someone who remains in darkness…. If you love your brother then you abideth in the light and you will not stumble. I write unto you: Little Children, fathers and Young Men I write unto you little children: #5040 Teknion – genuine defendants an affection from a teacher to disciples and Christian converts, because your sins are forgiven you for his name sake. I write unto you fathers # 3962 Pater – parent, progenitor, ancestor, mentor, model; because you have known Him from the beginning. I write unto you young men, because you have overcome the wicked one. Love Not the World:(material/worldly things) – (If you love the world, the love of the father is not in you) Types of Love: pure and righteous (brother & sister’s in Christ) The Promise of Eternal Life: But ye have an unction from the Holy One and ye know all things. Let there abide in you which ye have heard from the beginning and let it remain in you. Evidence of a True Believer: Behold, what manner of love that the Father has bestowed upon us that He has called us his children. If you are born of God you will not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him and cannot sin because he is born of that seed. Love in Deed and Truth: This is the word from the beginning: Keep his commandments. Love in deed and in truth and not word and tongue alone. God is Love: Love #25 – Agape – much affection, not based on feelings, duty, respect and service. Let us love one another. He that loveth not knoweth not God. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. Try the Spirits: Ye are of God little children and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. The Believers Victory: 3 that bear Record: Father, Son and Holy Ghost and 3 that bear witness: The Spirit, Water and Blood. God Answers Prayer: And this is the confidence we have in him that if we ask any thing according to his will he heareth us. And whatsoever we ask we know that we have the petitions that we desire of him. If you see your brother committing sin, don’t join in but offer him life not death. Faith: (Foundation in Christ) 2 John Greetings: Apostle John happy to see they are still walking in Truth and from the beginning it has been the same commandment. Messages: Addressing this letter to a Lady and her children, whom he claims to love in the truth and introduces himself as The elder. Love One another: Walk in Love… this is the action and application to the claim of love. Exhortation to Stedfastness: Do not receive transgressors that do not confess that Christ has come in the flesh – His plans to visit them soon. 3 John Greetings: Addressing this letter to Gaius a companion of Apostle Paul, that Apostle Paul baptized in Corinth and a delegate of the church in Derbe. Messages: To encourage Gaius to continue to help those who were spreading the gospel and teaching the truth. Concerning Helping Others: We therefore ought to receive such that we might be fellow helpers to the truth. John also spoke of his desire to address Diotrephes, face to face, a man who refused to accept John and was mistreating other believers. Diotrephes (Bad Report). II Peter

Warning Against False Teachers

Introduction:
Apostle Peter is addressing the gentile believers and speaks to warnings concerning the false teachers that would eventually come. Peter explains that the true knowledge has already been given and to be redirected is the indication of false teachings.

Body: If the world ever needed a warning, it needs to be warned against false teachers, because false teachers lead a person to doom himself quicker than any other single thing. Too many people are to quick to believe a lie; so they can go ahead and live like they want. They want some excuse to get away from the restraints and demands that Jesus Christ puts upon them. Therefore, they grope after any teaching that lowers the Person of Christ. The more He is lowered, the less binding His demands are. There is one major problem with false teaching. It’s a lie; it is not the truth. A person dooms himself to an eternal hell if he follows false teaching.

Here Peter warns us of the rise of false teachers within the church. But it is not without reason. Notice that the heresies they preach are "destructive" and that following them will "bring the way of truth into disrepute." The signs of false teachers are licentious, greedy, they exploit their followers with deceptive words and they are condemned and will destroy. You will know them because the truth is not in them and they that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

Conclusion: There are false prophets and false Teachers – then and now, Saying damnable heresies and denying the Lord. Trying to make merchandise of you – in covetousness. God did not spare the angels that sinned and will not spare ‘hell’ for false teachers. The Lord knows you dwell among them, but will deliver you for your righteousness. False Teachers work for the lust of the flesh and are servants of corruption. As spoken in Proverbs: The dog is turned to his own vomit again, and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire (borboros) #1004 - means uncertain derivative; mud: - mire.

Long Suffering - Apostle Peter

Title:
Heaven is Worth the Wait

Introduction:
This article will address long suffering for the benefit of eternal living in Heaven and doing good in spite of any evil done to us; for the sake of righteousness and the glory of God.

It is my intention to speak to those who desire a greater understanding of the word. It will examine the message Apostle Peter was trying to convey and how we can apply this to our current and daily lives.

Evil for Evil can be as simple and over looked as Anger for Anger, displayed in silence or attitude towards one another. This representation brings comfort to the flesh, but provides no credit nor glory to God.

Body:
The first major theme in 1Peter is “Heaven is Worth the Wait” Chapter 1:4 reads: To an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that fadeth not away, but reserved in heaven for you. Christians are regarded as the adopted children of God, and heaven is spoken of as their inheritance, as what their Father will bestow on them as the proof of his love. Incorruptible, It will not fade away and vanish, as that which we inherit in this world does. The inheritance will be imperishable, or will endure forever. Undefiled, as applied to an inheritance, it means that it will be pure. It will not have been obtained by dishonesty, nor will it be held by fraud; it will not be such as will corrupt the soul, or tempt to extravagance, sensuality, and lust, as a rich inheritance often does here; it will be such that its eternal enjoyment will never tend in any manner to defile the heart. Fadeth, this applies to a crown or garland. The word is properly applied to that which does not fade or wither, in contradistinction from a flower that fades. It may then denote anything that is enduring, and is applied to the future inheritance of the saints to describe its perpetuity in all its brilliance and splendor, in contrast with the fading nature of all that is earthly. Reserved, in heaven for you - The idea is that it is an inheritance appointed for us, and kept by one who can make it sure to us, and who will certainly bestow it upon us.

”The Blessedness of Suffering for Righteousness Sake” is also another major theme that Peter expresses and this section explores the glory that God will provide for the suffering of righteousness. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in the heavens. The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

Conclusion: True Christian joy is not earthly happiness, pleasure or a pleasant way of passing time, but the joy in believing which cannot be compared with anything else, the joy of knowing God's love, the joy, according to the word of the Apostle Peter, of worthily partaking of Christ's sufferings. Spiritual joy is closely tied with spiritual suffering. It is incorrect to think that joy comes only after suffering; joy in Christ comes together with suffering in Christ. They coexist and depend one on the other for their strength and power. As sorrow over sin comes together with the joy of salvation, so also suffering in this world is consonant with and even directly evokes this ineffable joy of salvation. We rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope: and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Such is the joy of Christians, the joy of the martyrs, which more than anything else bears witness to the truth of the Christian faith and the genuineness of Christian spiritual life. Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in the heavens.

The Seven Laws of Noah (Hebrew: שבע מצוות בני נח‎ Sheva mitzvot B'nei Noach) form the major part of the Noahide Laws or Noachide Code.

This code is a set of moral imperatives that, according to the Talmud, were given by God as a binding set of laws for the children of Noah - that is, all of mankind. According to Judaism any non-Jew who lives according to these laws is regarded as a Righteous Gentile and is assured of a place in the world to come, the final reward of the righteous. Adherents are often called "B'nei Noach" (Children of Noah) or "Noahides".

Noahidism is a monotheistic Jewish ideology based on the Seven Laws of Noah. According to Jewish law, non-Jews are not obligated to convert to Judaism, but they are required to observe the Seven Laws of Noah. Those who subscribe to the observance of such laws and their supporting organizations are referred to as Bene Noach (B'nei Noah) (Hebrew: בני נח‎), Children of Noah, Noahides or Noahites.

The seven laws listed by the Tosefta and the Talmud are
1. Prohibition of Idolatry
2. Prohibition of Murder
3. Prohibition of Theft
4. Prohibition of Sexual immorality
5. Prohibition of Blasphemy
6. Prohibition of eating flesh taken from an animal while it is still alive
7. Establishment of law courts

The Noahide Laws comprise the six laws which were given to Adam in the Garden of Eden according to the Talmud's interpretation of Gen 2:16 and a seventh one, which was added after the Flood of Noah. Later at the Revelation at Sinai the Seven Laws of Noah were regiven to humanity and embedded in the 613 Laws given to the Children of Israel along with the Ten Commandments, which are part of, and not separate from, the 613 mitzvot.

The 613 Mitzvot (Hebrew: תרי"ג מצוות‎: Taryag Mitzvot, "613 commandments"; Biblical Hebrew: Miṣwoth) are statements and principles of law, ethics, and spiritual practice contained in the Torah or Five Books of Moses. These principles of Biblical law are sometimes called connections or commandments (mitzvot) and referred to collectively as the "Law of Moses" (Torat Moshe, תורת משה), "Mosaic Law", or simply "the Law".

Although there have been many attempts to codify and enumerate the commandments contained in the Torah, the traditional view is based on Maimonides' enumeration. The 613 commandments are either "positive commandments" to perform an act (mitzvot aseh) or "negative commandments" to abstain from certain acts (mitzvot lo taaseh). There are 365 negative commandments, corresponding to the number of days in a solar year, and 248 positive commandments, ascribed to the number of bones and significant organs in the human body.

The Talmud notes that the Hebrew numerical value (gematria) of the word "Torah" is 611, and combining Moses's 611 commandments with the two received directly from God in Genesis, to "be fruitful and multiply" and male circumcision, adds up to 613.

Divine law is any law (or rule) that in the opinion of believers, comes directly from the will of God. Like natural law (which may be seen as a manifestation of divine law) it is independent of the will of man, who cannot change it. However it may be revealed or not, so it may change in human perception in time through new revelation.

In Thomas Aquinas's Treatise on Law, Divine Law, as opposed to Natural Law, comes only from revelation or scripture, hence Biblical law, and is necessary for human salvation.

Saint Thomas Aquinas, O.P., also Thomas of Aquin or Aquino; (Aquino, 1225 – Fossanova, 7 March 1274) was an Italian priest of the Catholic Church in the Dominican Order, and an immensely influential philosopher and theologian in the tradition of scholasticism, known as Doctor Angelicus (the Angelic Doctor) and Doctor Communis or Doctor Universalis (the Common or Universal Doctor). Aquinas" is not a surname (hereditary surnames were not then in common use in Europe), but is a Latin adjective meaning "of Aquino", his place of birth. He was the foremost classical proponent of natural theology, and the father of the Thomistic school of philosophy and theology, which is named after him. His influence on Western thought is considerable, and much of modern philosophy was conceived as a reaction against, or as an agreement with his ideas, particularly in the areas of ethics, natural law and political theory.

The Old Testament is accepted by Christians as scripture. Broadly speaking, it contains the same material as the Talmud/Hebrew Bible.

Lesson # 11: April 25 - May 1, 2010

It is written..your blessings await you, in spite of what you have done. If you have confessed your sins and asked God for forgiveness, understand that “It is finished!”

In Genesis, sin crept in through the actions of Adam and Eve led to the curse of mankind; and returned again through the corruptions of a nation that led to the great flood. God decided that he would redeem us once again by sending his only son to save us from our sins. This lesson is simple, if you keep in mind that Jesus lives and the doors have been opened to a new beginning for each and every one of us…if we so desire to live a life of covenant with God.

Let’s examine SIN. Sin is the transgression or violation of God’s laws…a negative habit of the soul or outward expression of conduct via omission or commision. When you sin, you are quite aware that you are doing something “wrong” and causing corruption. It is never smart to let temptation manifest to the point that it becomes sin. At that point, you will lose control of it. It can cause moral sickness or spiritual death.. James 1:14-15… “but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death”. It was never God’s desire for his children to walk around unhealthy in body or soul.

In the medical world, we say prevention is better than treatment when you know you are at risk for life threatening diseases. It is a lot easier to be proactive and take preventative measures to protect yourself against a disease than it is to be reactive and try to fight something after it has invaded your body causing destruction. As Christians, we all know we are susceptible (or open) to being tempted. Let’s be proactive and promote spiritual health and wellness. We can educate ourselves and utilize our God given resources to address temptation when it comes our way – before it has the opportunity to give life to sin. The ultimate goal is to save lives.

Temptation will come in many forms when you have a desire or need for something and the devil wants to throw you off track to stop your blessing. Temptation can manifest itself as something so real…an opportunity of a lifetime. Here’s is one scripture that helps you tell the difference….

James 1:16-17
16Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. (KJV)

16Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. 17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (NIV)

16-18So, my very dear friends, don't get thrown off course. Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. (The Message)

If you fail the test of temptation and it evolves into sin…

Thanks be to God that He is a forgiving God and each individual has been given the choice and instructions to discontinue the cycle of sin. As long as you are a child of God, you are entitled to be free.

· Repent – acknowledge the feeling of wrongdoing; be remorseful.
· Talk to God and Confess your sins to God (1 John 1:9)
· Ask God for forgiveness through prayer
· Rectify the problem your actions created - Ask others you’ve corrupted for forgiveness.

*If they do not forgive you verbally and/or by their actions, ask again. If they never forgive you, remember they also have free will . Move on - Let go and let God !

- While you are at it, forgive yourself too !
· Recite.. Romans 6:14 says “sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace” (or another scripture that ministers to you)
· Receive forgiveness from the Holy Father.. Know that your sins have been forgiven.

This is the reason why Jesus sacrificed his life for us. Never underestimate the meaning of this event in time (John 3:16). We truly need salvation in our lives. The resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, was the miracle performed so that we receive and accept the message of God’s promise – an everlasting life filled with prosperity, joy, love, etc. After taking his seat, Jesus granted us authority over our lives. This is such a powerful gift to receive. It’s a gift that allows us to overcome many obstacles and challenges that life offers. As you conquer each challenge (…and you will - In the Name of Jesus), remember the promises of God. Trust and wait on Him. In the meantime, live by example by walking in HIS image - not your own. You never know who's watching you.

Lesson # 10: Week of April 18 - 24, 2010

Our Savior IS tougher than nails. He walked the walk because it was all a part of the Master’s plan. He was ridiculed, beaten, spit on, and made to carry the cross with a crown of thorns pressed down on his head as he made this journey. His hands and feet were nailed to that same cross. He was pierced in the side even after he died. Thank God that His plan also included the resurrection of Jesus. When things get too hard for us, we can pray “In Jesus name” because we can attest to his strength. He endured all this for you and me so that we may be pardoned for our sins - sins that Jesus did not even commit himself; sins that have nothing to do with Jesus.

Hosea 4:2 speaks on the elements of sinning which also have similarities to the purpose of the enemy…to kill, steal and destroy. These are the things we must pray to our Heavenly Father to overcome. We are often destroyed because of the “lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). We must gain wisdom so that we may lack nothing (James 1:2-4). We must know that once we make the decision to live the life of a Christian, the best practice is to follow the instruction of the Word when trials will come our way. No matter how contradictory it is to our old spirit, KNOW that it is most beneficial to our new spirit when we are born again.

Yes, our Savior is tougher than nails. How tough are you? How tough do you have to be? In gaining knowledge let’s refer to scriptures that are rich with the answers to this question.

II Chronicles 16:9
For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

II Chronicles 20:15
...Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.

Exodus 14:13, 14
The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

Deuteronomy 3:22

Ye shall not fear them:for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.

Psalm 55:16-18
16As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.
17Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
18He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.
Many of these scriptures refer to “man”, although we know that trials come in many forms. However it comes, hold on to your faith, know what the Word says, and trust God through all situations. His Word is true and will not return void.

Answer: YOU need to be tough enough to stand. (Exodus 14: 13)

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ.... II Corinthians 2:14

Lesson # 9: Week of March 21 - March 27, 2010

CONFIDENCE

Confidence is a state of certainty or belief in your ability to succeed…having no doubt that you will be able to complete a task or mission. When we started LGI Bible Study mission, we read the Book of Nehemiah together. The 6th Chapter spoke of Nehemiah’s mission to the complete the wall and help the poor. He received letters to intimidate him, messages that threatened his life, and he was even encouraged to go into the house of God and take refuge. Nehemiah knew (without doubt) that he was on a mission of God so why should he go and hide. He states in verse 11, "Should a man like me run away? Or should one like me go into the temple to save his life? I will not go!". This mission wasn’t about him, it was about others. A man like me…one like me. He had confidence in knowing that he was a man of God and was sent to complete this task by God. He didn’t need to run or hide from the threats false prophets or anyone else that was trying to send him detour signs. He even prayed for God to remember those who stood against him. Did you know if you are confident in your walk with God, you can cause others who come against you to become less confident in their ability to throw you off track? This is found in verse 16 after Nehemiah completed the rebuilding of the wall as God has instructed. It reads: When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God. Again, God can and will be all that you need him to be in your life. The last lesson spoke of Him being your strength. He can also be your confidence.

Proverbs 3:25-26
25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
26 for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.

1 John 5: 13-15

13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

As we move into the Easter season, let’s grab on to the Word of God and build confidence in ourselves so that we can go out and do God’s work and live the way He has designed it. As we move into the Easter season, let’s KNOW that not even our sins can’t stop us from being who God wants us to be. KNOW that sin has no place in our lives because it is not of God. Jesus was sent here for you and me. God sacrificed His only son for you and me. Jesus, knowing that it was his Father’s will, carried out the mission and died for you and me. He rose and gave us authority. Do you even know how powerful you really are right now?

In confidence…KNOW that you are a child of God and destined for greatness !

Lesson # 8: Week of March 14 - 20, 2010

"Lord Give Us Strength to Run this Race"

Many of us have faced another week of challenges on all levels or another week of things that we must get done. God is in our corner to strengthen us during these times. No matter what things look like or how you feel, believe in God’s Word and continue to praise and worship Him. Read, meditate and allow him to reassure you that His Word is true. For those of you who are in hard places, I encourage you right now to press on and know that God’s got your back. He will not allow you to walk this road alone. He will place people and resolutions in your path at the right moment to let you know he is present in your life. You must hold on to your faith. For those of you who are purpose driven, with multiple things on your plate, I encourage you to press on and know that God’s got your back too. Don’t get weary in well doing. You have been designed to do exactly what he has you doing “soldier”. You have been chosen to be on the front line. The outcome of your labor will touch others in ways you never could imagine. Hold tight !! Remember: We can.. “do all things through Christ who strengthens us." (Phillipians 4:13). If you have not seen any major challenges recently, remain armored. In the meantime, use the strength that you have been given to encourage your brother or sister around you. You are your brother’s keeper, so be a living example of what God can and will do.

I encourage you, if don’t already do so, to go into your “secret closets” everyday and sincerely recite the Lord’s Prayer (Matt 6:9-13). This may be the side of your bed in the morning, your bathroom, your car, or any place where there is no one else around. It covers it all…even asking him to supply your daily needs (“Give us this day our daily bread”). If strength is what is needed that day, He will be your strength. Our God can be whatever you need him to be. Our God is faithful and He loves us unconditionally!

OBEDIENCE

Not my will, but thy will

Merriam-Webster defines obedience as the act of following a command or guidance of; conforming to or complying with. This is a behavior that is pleasing to God. He gives us specific instructions over and throughout the Bible on “how” he expects us to conduct ourselves. His desire is to bless us with a life of abundance and great reward. Although God tends to bless us in spite of ourselves, it is his desire that we have a spirit of self-discipline. We, the children of God, must read the Word daily to keep reminding ourselves of his plan for our lives. We must open our ears to what the Spirit tells us. There are times when things happen so fast, that our first reaction is not to ask, ”What would Jesus do in this situation?”; we react on impulse. Stop, pray and ask for guidance in all that we do…even in those challenging moments. We must trust Him. We also need to be equipped to help others. This is why it is so important to have the Word (God’s instructions) deep down on the inside. Know that our Father is also a safety net for our mishaps and downfalls; he provides instructions even when we fall short. Now that’s another discussion. The point is: when we are convicted by the Spirit for disobedience, we must acknowledge our wrongdoing, take corrective actions and repent asking God for forgiveness. He will wash it all away. (1 John 1:9). That is how awesome and amazing our Father is! Many of us already know this, but The Ten Commandments is a good start (Exodus 20).

As we read more there is overflow of instructions for every situation that will pertain to our individual lives…Don’t question him... Don't make excuses...Just Do It !!!

PATIENCE

In continuing with the monthly readings, let’s review how “patience” is addressed in the Bible. On the monthly list of scriptures, James 1 was included. James 1: 2-4 (NIV) reads…2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. King James uses the word “patience”…patience in your individual journeys to move forward and stay steadfast in your faith that you will prosper, overcome, or make it through the tough times. God is always on his throne in spite of what your individual situations look like.

There are other scriptures that you can read pertaining to patience:

1 Peter 2:20

But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Matthew 24:13

but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Lesson #1 - January 10-16, 2010

In praying my introduction prayer, I also asked God to breathe a special anointing over this Bible study lesson and become visible to those who he wants to reach. I am truly excited, for what he has planned to do for us his people. Now let’s put on our armor. In seeking God for this first lesson, He led me to Nehemiah, the 16th Book in the Old Testament. Nehemiah is documented as being the author of this Book. It tells how God uses him to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Think “Determination” - the act or result of deciding definitely and firmly; a firm or fixed intention to achieve a desired end. When you are on a mission for God, you must be like Nehemiah fully prepared, equipped, and determined to do what needs to be done. You must put on full armor of God (Eph. 6:10-18); yes, every part of the armor is necessary. You must be “determined” to move mountains in order to accomplish God’s work. As we navigate through the Book of Nehemiah, you will see how Nehemiah uses his armor. There are times when God makes the purpose clear to us, but there are also times when we are unsure why He leads us down a specific path. But it's okay..in prayer, this is when you use your Shield of Faith. As I noted in my Introduction, Proverbs 3:5 states “…lean not on your own understanding…” I am prayerful that this month’s mission to completed according to the will of our Father, in Jesus’ name.

Purpose
God desires us to reach ALL of his children, near and far. The LGI Bible Study Blog is designed to:

1) equip his people with the sword of the Spirit…the Word of God
2) help others have a closer relationship with God
3) create an pleasant environment of fellowship.

Prayer
I encourage you to pray before reading and studying your Bible. Ask God to open your eyes to see the message that has been intended for you and to open your ears so you can hear the Holy Spirit speak to you. Proverbs 3:5-6 reads “trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path”. You will see even the more how God has positioned the people, biblical events, stories, prayers, etc. to apply directly to your life.

Versions of the Bible
I like to use several versions of the Bible when studying or reviewing. My favorite is King James Version (KJV), it’s what I’ve been accustom to all my life. I love the dialect (“thy”, “thou” and “shalt”) of this era. I also use the New International Version (NIV) because it is written in more contemporary English terms. It is a more recently translated version, copyright in 1984. Most find the NIV to be much easier to read than King James. Additional versions of choice for translation purpose are Amplified and The Message. The Message version is written with a basic conversational tone. It is very interesting to me to read and compare the different versions to get better understanding of what God is saying to me. If you’ve never done this, I encourage you to try it. They are slightly different in variation and created to give clearer understanding of the Word. I believe you will find it quite interesting too. I have included an example below. Because this blog is intended to be interactive, I would like to hear your thoughts as you become more familiar with this. For those who are more advanced, I also would like to encourage you to share. This will be how we learn from each other.

Variations: Proverbs 3:5-6

5Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding; 6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path. (KJV)

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (NIV)

5 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
6 In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. (Amplified)

5Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. 6Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track. (The Message)

Weekly reading schedule will be posted each month. The weekly reading schedule will be posted to keep us on one accord. Daily reading should take no more than 15-20 minutes to complete. The Spirit is saying at least 30 minutes. This isn’t too much to ask after he has given you a whole day. Spending quality time with God each day promotes spiritual growth (that was Stephanie’s input).

Weekly Lessons
I will post a brief overview of specific portions of our readings based on the schedule. This is intended to stimulate discussion on the various topics.

Questions to Answer
Since it is God’s will for us to use the Bible as a tool for our lives, these questions will be designed to encourage application of the Word. There will be no more than 3-4 questions posted per week.

As scriptures are referenced throughout the blog, the actual verse will be included in this section. This will encourage you to search your Bible and possibly read the connecting verses or even the Chapter. You never know where God will lead you.

I come before you God as humble as I know how, thanking you for all things. I give YOU all the honor and the glory. Thank you for choosing me to be a light for your people. Decrease me now Father, so that you alone are visible as we study your Word together. I ask that you add blessings to the lives of each and everyone that connects to the Lovin God, Inc. Bible Study Blog. I pray that this fellowship reaches near and far. I pray for understanding, growth, and wisdom in you Jesus, my Lord and Saviour. In your mighty name I will always pray. Amen.

God has been speaking to me and instructing me to spread his word amongst his people…to enlarge his territory. Initially, I didn’t feel worthy; didn’t know how he wanted me to do this. I’ve come to really know God over the years and desire to go deeper. In getting to know Him, I know that we can do nothing without him. I’ve learned that when He chooses YOU, and you answer to His calling on your life, he will give you the tools to carry out his plan. Your role is to trust him. Listen to his instructions. Be obedient to his commands. Know that through Christ Jesus, you CAN do all things.

Because of my increasing wisdom, I am convinced that God wants relationship with ALL of his children. The goal of this Bible Study blog is 1) to equip his people with the sword of the Spirit…the Word of God; 2) to help others have a closer relationship with God; and 3) to create an pleasant environment of fellowship.

Our first Verse to Remember is: 2 Timothy 3:14-17

14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

It is obvious that this scripture let’s us know why the Word is so important for us. Let’s focus on the 16th and 17th verses which prompt us to look inward “so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work”. Since there is no doubt that we are going to face challenges that come with following God, we must be prepared in every way possible (Eph. 6:10-20). We also must keep in mind that we are human and not perfect by any means. None of us are exempt from sin. He desires for us to be born again; shedding the old and putting on the new; committing our lives to Him by accepting him as our Lord and Savior; and then committing to following His commandments by reading and listening to the Holy Spirit that lives within us. In addition, we must learn how to conduct ourselves as the children of God and respond to internal and external challenges in the way only God would want us to. Keep in mind that this is not always easy, but doable because in God all things are possible. Jesus said it himself – as recalled in the Books of Matthew and Mark - and I believe it. The Bible teaches us the “how to”. It teaches us to hold ourselves accountable when we know we are out of line. It also teaches us to make necessary corrections to get back in line. When you truly yield to the Word of God, you will find yourself walking down the road of righteousness. Once this has been done in its entirety, we (and others) can really witness the fruit of our labor as we work in his vineyard.
